West Bromwich Leisure Centre time tablet - Sandwell Council (news release)

Released on 8th April 2013 A particular time tablet has been hidden on the webpage of the newest A12.5 million West Bromwich Leisure Centre. It contained an overview of life in 2013 and was buried by two Future Skills Sandwell apprentices. They were joined by Sandwell councillors and the team behind the project. The tablet contained West Bromwich Albion memorabilia, local newspapers, information regarding the area's regeneration and even an Argos catalogue showing future generations the gadgets and devices for sale in 2013. Sandwell deputy chief Councillor Steve Eling said: "With doom and gloom in the headlines, getting into West Bromwich and seeing excellent regeneration and redevelopment work under way creates a really positive feeling. "We are pleased with the newest opportunities in the offing for the teenagers and are certain that we are assisting to develop a talented and employable staff. "I am staggered by the progress already made on the West Bromwich Leisure Centre site in this short time and pleased that the features is a big the main area's future." The newest heart, on the part of Barton Street and Moore Street, is set to start in spring 2014. Along with offering a array of exercise classes and sports for all ages and abilities, Future Skills Sandwell students will be benefited by the centre by providing employment and training opportunities. Also attending were representatives from DC Leisure and their partners Pellikaan Construction and Robert Limberick Architects, that are employed in conjunction to open the state of the art service. Peter Kirkham, Development Director at DC Leisure, added: "We are looking forward to continuing to work with Sandwell Council to encourage increased involvement in sport and physical exercise by way of a different and exciting mixture of programs and facilities." Facilities in the new centre includes a 25m pool, student pool, sauna and steam space, four-court sports area, 100-station exercise selection, two party studios/activity areas, interior children's journey play centre and restaurant.
