Arsenal FC-SD Announces Partnership with West Ham United - SoccerNation.com

The world of youth soccer is global and America is the young nation surrounded by countries  across the Atlantic whose soccer history spans many more years than ours.  When it comes to youth player develoment, it is always beneficial to explore how Academies across the Atlantic train. West Ham United's Academy is well recognized around the world for accomplishing developing players who go professional. Academy Director Tony Carr well known around the globe and is interesting in exploring the youth talent in America.

Arsenal FC San Diego, which recently affiliated with Arsenal FC of Temecula, has announced a partnership with West Ham United International Academy. The partnership will provide Arsenal FC-SD with access to one of the top youth training programs in the world, the West Ham United Youth Academy in London.

"We're very excited to be working with West Ham United," said Arsenal FC-SD Public Relations Officer Rick Ellis. "West Ham has a very long and successful history in developing players in their Academy and we hope to leverage off that experience via this association."

Over the years, West Ham United Academy has produced such stellar players as Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole and Glen Johnson. Academy Director Tony Carr is acknowledged as one of the most influential men in the sport and has been a part of the staff for nearly four decades.

The partnership between Arsenal FC-SD and West Ham was put together through Global Image Sports (GIS), a sports management company that provides opportunities and experiences via the formation of strategic partnerships in the sports industry. The company prides itself on a professional approach to its business activities and strives to be the market leader in its field while offering its customers unrivalled service and satisfaction.

As a part of the new relationship, Arsenal FC-SD will host a West Ham United International Academy Identification Camp at 4S Sports Park on June 25-27. The camp is open to U10-U18 boys and girls and will be overseen by a senior member of the West Ham United International Academy coaching staff.

The camp will consist of coaching methods and drills from the West Ham United Academy, with each player receiving a West Ham United International Academy camp T-shirt.

The top 10% of youth soccer players who excel at this Regional Camp will be invited to the 2013 West Ham United International Academy National Residential Camp at Darlington School in Rome, Georgia this summer. The National camp is staffed by many of Academy coaches from the West Ham United in London and directed by Academy Director Carr.

Youth soccer players excelling at the National Camp will be invited to the elite player pool for the International team to compete in London at the West Ham United Academy.

"The West Ham ID Camp allows our local players an opportunity to be compared to players from across the country and even in Europe," Ellis explained. "I firmly believe that the quality of youth players in San Diego County is at or above par with players anywhere in the country, and this ID Camp will allow us to prove this. I'm looking forward to several of our players who attend the Camp receiving an invitation to the national camp in Georgia."

TRYOUT INFORMATION: In other news from Arsenal FC-SD, the club will hold tryouts for U15 through U18 on May 1 and 2 at 4S Sports Park. Tryouts for Boys U15-U18 will be held from 4:00-5:30 p.m. and for Girls U15-U18 from 5:45-7:30 p.m. Interested players should arrive at least 30 minutes early to warm up and to register. All players should bring a water bottle, ball, cleats and shin guards and must be accompanied by an adult guardian who can sign the waiver form. There are no fees for tryouts.
