Kings beat Blues 3-2 in OT, take 3-2 series lead

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The way the Los Angeles Kings opened the playoffs is old news. The defending Stanley Cup champions are headed home where they've dominated, one win shy of surviving the first round.

Defenseman Slava Voynov scored on an odd-man rush 8 minutes into overtime and the Kings beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Wednesday night, winning for the third straight time after dropping the first two games.

"Starting the series 0-2 wasn't the best start," said Jeff Carter, who scored in the opening minute of the second and third periods. "It wasn't the start we were looking for, but we worked on things and we talked about things, and I think it's showing in our game now."

Game 6 is in Los Angeles on Friday night and the Kings have won nine in a row at home, where they are 21-4-1 overall counting the regular season. They're also 4-0 at home in the playoffs against the Blues the last two seasons.

"Another one-goal game, but we came out on top," goalie Jonathan Quick said. "We've got another one to win, so we're going to go home and get our rest and get ready.

The Blues failed to capitalize on Alex Pietrangelo's goal with 44.1 seconds remaining in regulation. Rookie Jaden Schwartz got a piece of Voynov's stick on the winner, perhaps altering the shot a bit, and smashed his stick several times against the sideboards and glass before leaving the ice.

"I thought we played a pretty solid game for the most part," Schwartz said. "We battled back hard. It was just an unfortunate bounce in the end."

With goalie Brian Elliott off for an extra attacker, Pietrangelo's wrist shot at the end of regulation forced overtime for the second time in the series. It was the third goal in the final minute of the third period in the series.

The Kings' Justin Williams scored in the final minute of a 2-1 overtime loss in Game 1, also in St. Louis. The Blues had a 2-0 series lead after Barret Jackman scored in the final minute of Game 2.

"The momentum can swing at any moment," said Jackman, who was on the ice for the winner. "You get an odd-man rush and get a bit of a lucky goal, that happens in overtime.

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock thought Game 5 was his team's best overall effort, and was optimistic that with a repeat showing they can get back home and force Game 7 on Monday night.

"If we play like that again, I like our chances," Hitchcock said. "We got a heck of an effort for everybody across the board."

The Kings ended the Blues' eight-game home win streak in which Elliott allowed one goal each time. Elliott was not made available to reporters.

Voynov scored the only goal in the Kings' 1-0 Game 3 victory. That had been the defenseman's lone point of the series before he joined the attack with Williams and Anze Kopitar, with all three players handling the puck before Voynov slid the puck beneath Elliott's pads.

Alex Steen's third goal of the series tied it at 1 in the second period for St. Louis. Steen, whose short-handed overtime goal decided Game 1, twice took the puck from defenseman Jake Muzzin on the play.

Pietrangelo got the puck at the point off a clean faceoff win by David Backes and slid into the middle before threading a shot past Quick after two teammates were unsuccessful at deflection attempts.

Carter's power-play goal capitalized on a tripping penalty to Jackman at the end of the second period. Kopitar got Elliott out of position on an odd-man rush before Carter converted a one-timer to put the Kings up 2-1.

The Blues dominated much of the scoreless opening period, responding from their fadeout while blowing a pair of leads in a 4-3 loss in Game 4. The reunited CPR fourth line of Adam Cracknell, Chris Porter and Ryan Reaves had a handful of nice scoring chances in addition to setting the tone physically.

It took the Kings just 14 seconds to take the lead in the second period, though, when Carter tapped a rebound past Elliott. Carter, among the NHL leaders with 26 goals, had no points in the first three games.

The Blues' No. 1 line was victimized again, with Patrik Berglund and David Perron on the ice for the fifth straight goal by the Kings.

Steen tied it a little over five minutes later. Steen knocked Muzzin's clearing effort out of the air with his stick and won a battle for the puck behind the net before wheeling around and scoring on a high shot.

NOTES: Cracknell was a healthy scratch in Game 4 in favor of rookie Vladimir Tarasenko, who made his playoff debut and was no factor. ... Kings coach Darryl Sutter made one lineup change, too, scratching D Keaton Ellerby in favor of 21-year-old rookie F Tyler Toffoli, who made his playoff debut. D Matt Greene, still getting into condition after missing virtually the entire season, has yet to appear in the series. ... Mike Richards assisted on Carter's second goal and has three assists the last two games.

Seattle Mariners: Is 2013 Season Already at risk?

Half a dozen games ago, the Seattle Mariners were who is fit. The team was 20-21 along with had just won two series in the row against the Oakland A's and Manhattan Yankees.

Six games before, the Mariners were a team ever-increasing, and fans were needs to hope that this team could put it all together. Safeco Field was actually providing some number of home-field advantage, even in case the fans were not coming in the turnstiles.

Now, a six-game losing streak is simply not the end of the entire world. We are still within May. The Mariners get talent, some degree of youthful energy together with a nice mix of veterans. You can find hope.

Still, the M's are now 10 games out associated with first place. The Mississippi Rangers are playing wonderful ball. The scrappy Oakland A's will hang around all season. Even the disappointing Los angeles Angels could eventually transform it around.

Translation? A team like Seattle cannot afford to suffer through six-game losing streaks. You can find little room for mistakes.

Truthfully, the Mariners lost some heartbreakers above the losing streak. The entire series about the Cleveland Indians seemed prefer one lost opportunity following another. The M's battled, but they lost one game inside bottom of the ninth and two games around extra innings.

Do you make a move? Thomas Holmes of Bleacher Report wrote a superb article on rumors and potential moves that the Mariners could make. Regretably, each of these represent the types of moves the Mariners manage to have been making for several years.

The team gets behind partway in the season. The team trades their only tradeable goods. The team hopes the youngsters that they get in turn will eventually pan available.

Obviously there is no quick fixes. Seattle may possibly promote Nick Franklin in addition to Jeremy Bonderman. They could trade away considered one of their veterans. Will that turn things around? One move was made definitely, which was to send Jesus Montero down to Triple-A (via The Press Tribune).

Do the fans simply need to take a deep flow of air, be patient and reiterate the old sports cliche on the subject of taking one game each time? If you think to sort it out, the Mariners could took three of four because of Cleveland. They obviously didn't, nevertheless opportunity was certainly truth be told there. If they win this series, does that provide positive momentum and then a better outcome against your Angels?

Sometimes (most of a time) it is tough as a Mariners fan. The team starts to seem good, and then they will drop six straight. Seattle now actually reaches go home, but Texas can be waiting for them.

Or, maybe this is the pioneer big drop in the process to another disappointing year or so. The weekend series against Texas are often key tipping point in 2013.

Norwich City reach safe ground with thrashing of West Brom - The Guardian

There will not be any final-day drama for Norwich City to endure. Chris Hughton can relax at last. His side's miserable run of form since the turn of the year had meant that relegation was a genuine concern, yet by the end of this match the mood of foreboding around Carrow Road had been replaced by a party atmosphere which few people could have seen coming before kick-off. Then all the talk had been of the manager's perceived negativity, Norwich's struggles in front of goal and trips to Doncaster and Bournemouth next season.

However Norwich knew that because Aston Villa and Wigan play each other next Sunday, a victory over West Bromwich would secure their safety so instead of freezing, they responded magnificently to the pressure. By the time Jonny Howson curled a wonderful fourth goal into Ben Foster's top-left corner from 25 yards in the 90th minute, the game had long been over as a contest.

This was Norwich's biggest victory in the Premier League since a 5-1 win at Everton in September 1993, only their third in the previous 20 matches and the first by more than one goal this season. They could not have chosen a better occasion to throw the shackles off.

"I thought we were excellent from the first minute to the 93rd minute," Hughton said later. "I'm incredibly relieved. We've embarked on a tough season. We've found it difficult since Christmas. On a day when it really counted it was arguably our best performance of the season. I must admit I didn't get much sleep last night and hopefully I won't get much tonight."

Sunday morning's comments by Grant Holt about Norwich's caution had done Hughton few favours and perhaps eager to dispel the doubts that have emerged over their style, City began feverishly, swarming all over the visitors and looking more like the side that went 10 games unbeaten in the winter. It helped, too, that West Bromwich seemed to take their cue from their supporters, who arrived armed with an impressive array of beach balls and inflatable animals.

While West Brom were thinking of the beach, Norwich's focus was undimmed and they made the breakthrough after 25 minutes. A minute after Anthony Pilkington had tested Foster with a stinging drive, Holt moved to the right flank and crossed towards Ryan Bennett, who nodded the ball into the six-yard box. Played onside by Jonas Olsson, Wes Hoolahan lunged at the ball and although Foster denied him, the rebound fell to Robert Snodgrass, whose finish soared into the roof of the net. It was a scrappy goal but one that lifted the tension and Norwich almost doubled their lead when Hoolahan's effort from 25 yards out was tipped over by Foster.

West Bromwich, unconvincing in their 4-3-3 formation, had offered no threat at all and John Ruddy, making his first start in goal for Norwich after six months out with a hip injury, was rarely extended. "We were really poor," said the head coach Steve Clarke, who expects to sell Peter Odemwingie this summer. "It was Norwich's day. I misread the game. I didn't think Norwich were capable of causing us so many problems."

Clarke tried to alter the flow of the match by replacing Markus Rosenberg with Chris Brunt at half-time, and Romelu Lukaku was soon scuffing wide from 12 yards out. He might have done better.

Yet Norwich remained in control and when Hoolahan tried to send Holt through after 62 minutes, Foster's comical miskick allowed Norwich's top scorer to run the ball into the empty net for his seventh of the season. The game was safe and so were Norwich.

Three minutes later, Gareth McAuley headed Snodgrass's free-kick into his own goal under pressure from Bennett and the celebrations could begin.

Why Mel Kiper Is Wrong About De'Anthony Thomas as the 2014 Draft's Best RB

The Oregon Ducks have been one of college football's most exciting teams to watch. Their high-octane offense leads to big numbers and seemingly interchangeable star running backs.

The latest one in the bunch, De'Anthony Thomas, will be the starter in 2014. Naturally, he'll be poised to have a breakout year after already putting up nice numbers the previous two seasons as a running back, kick returner and wide receiver.

There's no question that Thomas is one of the fastest players in college football, if not the fastest. He could very well be on the Heisman short list for this coming season, and with all his ability, it's not that surprising to hear Mel Kiper call him the top running back prospect in the 2014 NFL draft.

While his skill set makes that claim sound entirely reasonable, Thomas has a lot working against him heading into his junior year.

Let's start with the elephant in the room: Chip Kelly. He's with the Philadelphia Eagles now. That high-octane offense is now gone. Mark Helfrich took over as head coach, so luckily there will not be much that changes.

Still, even small modifications that Helfrich makes could have a major impact on Thomas's role moving forward, which could also affect his draft status. He's in a much better situation than most who have new head coaches, but it's a transition nonetheless.

The change in management does not concern me too much when it comes to Thomas, but what does is his frame. Yes, he's a speed demon, but at 5'9" and 173 pounds, he has a small frame.

There's no question that at worst he could be an effective return man or third-down back, but is he a feature back with that frame?

Kenjon Barner was slightly bigger at 5'10" and nearly 200 pounds, and he was a sixth-rounder. LaMichael James was only 5'8", but he was also nearly 200 pounds and took his dominance in college to a late Round 2 selection.

For Thomas to be a first-round pick, or the first running back taken, period for that matter, he would have to not only be more effective than his two predecessors in college, a tall order, but show that his lack of bulk will not be an issue at the NFL level.

That is a much greater concern moving forward. The height can be worked around, but even with his speed, he is a high risk for injury unless he's able to bulk up to at least 190 over the course of his junior year.

Featured running backs under 190 pounds are a rarity in today's NFL. There hasn't been an every-down guy that small since Warrick Dunn. That means Thomas needs to show more than just speed if he is going to be a high draft pick.

It's not just up to him, however, as his competition does not have that frame issue moving forward. Lache Seastrunk and Ka'Deem Carey are slower than Thomas, but they have put up big numbers so far and have a more well-rounded game, making them more likely to be every-down backs in the NFL.

Yes, Tavon Austin was a top-10 pick last year despite having a similar frame. That was a perfect storm of a lack of other elite skill players in the draft that year. This year's class has multiple quarterbacks and wide receiver Marqise Lee, among others.

The three running backs are all underclassmen as well; there's the possibility that all go back to college for their senior year, making none of them the top prospect for the draft.

Even if all declare for the draft, is Thomas really better than Seastrunk or Carey? Yes, Thomas has not had a huge workload yet to judge him by, but neither has Seastrunk. Carey, meanwhile, has more experience as a feature back than the other two put together.

That, combined with his huge numbers against similar competition at Arizona, makes me put Carey as the top running back prospect moving forward. All three can make a claim for it, but Thomas' weaknesses cannot be fixed by putting up big numbers.

No one doubts Thomas's ability as a great college running back moving forward, especially in Oregon's system, but is he a first-round pick or the best running back in the class? That's simply not the case.

Swansea keen to lure West Brom loan star Romelu Lukaku - expressandstar.com

Swansea were today preparing to step up their interest in Romelu Lukaku as West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke insisted he will not promise first-team football to any new strikers.

The Baggies could be forced to reshape their forward line completely next season with a host of Premier League rivals, including the Swans, expressing an interest in Lukaku.

And Clarke insists he is planning to rotate his forwards again, having swapped around Lukaku, Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie to good effect during the club's flying start to the season.

"I don't make promises to players," said Clarke. "When I speak to any player face to face I just give an honest opinion and I expect them to give an honest opinion back.

"If you can rotate strikers it's good to. If you look back at the start of the season, I was rotating forward players regularly and we always had energy and invention up front. If you do that with strikers you win matches.

"I've tried to do it all season but obviously it's more difficult when you get into the dark days of the winter, when we didn't do so well.

"I think it's beneficial for a forward player if he can go into a game fresh, and with a lot of energy to impose himself on the game."

Sources in Wales claim Swansea are preparing to firm up their interest in taking Lukaku on loan from Chelsea next season in the hope that Europa League football can tempt him to the Liberty Stadium.

They believe Chelsea and Lukaku's advisors will push him towards a club in Europe as he looks to broaden his football education. But Lukaku is believed to favour either a return to Stamford Bridge with regular games or a second season at The Hawthorns, where he has scored 14 goals and become a popular figure with fans and team-mates.

Odemwingie seems certain to leave in the summer with Marc-Antoine Fortune out of contract and Swede Markus Rosenberg's future uncertain.

How to Play With The Most unfortunate Tennis Doubles Partner At any time.

Hockey Fixation reader Terry recently posted this comment: "What do you really do when your tennis partner informs you of that your serve isn't so good so she won't have fun with net? I have an awesome serve, and she was just wanting to be mean, or she just didn't wish to play up at online. "

Oh, Terry. While I love playing an array of tennis, your comment can be described as perfect example of why I like to doubles so much. Peoples' true personalities ended up when you partner up with them for a competitive tennis game match. And nothing brings out there a tennis partner's true personality superior to being in a competitive match where she or he is losing.

And it appears that will Terry got an in close proximity and personal look in her partner's true temperament. And what she watched wasn't pretty. But guess what happens Terry? If you play doubles for any period, it's bound to appear. At some point, you'll get paired with... the worst type of doubles partner ever.

And I can promise you that the worst doubles partner is not the one with the lowest amount of amount of tennis competency. The worst partner is absolutely not the one in the poorest condition. The worst partner is simply not the one who is blissfully unacquainted with strategy, tactics and/or in the court positioning. The worst partner is not really even the one who arrives to the match 15 minutes late, clueless as to why her tardiness is indeed stressful for everyone altogether different.

The worst tennis partner doesn't care about how pair of you function as a team. The whole partnership dynamic thing went out the window with this player. The worst tennis partner is there to it for him or even herself, not for your team and not necessarily for you.

Now, that is my personal opinion. And you'll differ with me within this. But I can inform you of that I have played with lots and lots of people. And this is the kind of partner that I absolutely can't stand and locate almost impossible to deal with.

My advice on how you can approach this type of partner is not really very pretty. I'm sure the majority of you won't find the application too helpful. But this is one of those "face reality" situations where you just need to make the best of it. So here's how You have to deal with this accomplice:

1. Realize that you do not win this match. With the worst partner ever, you will find a very low likelihood involving winning the match. And that's because your spouse is not working for you. He or she can be working against you. Doubles requires lots and a lot of constant teamwork. But you can't band together as a team if you hardly speak to each other in a civil fashion. I'm not saying it's a given you do lose. Just that your probability of winning go way down with any such partner.

2. Accept that you will never change your partner. You often realize you're playing with this partner in the course of the match. And anything you say or do to "help" that player realize the problem she or he is causing may just create matters worse. I think that's because this partner is playing their own mind games – whether they're beating themselves all the way up over how poorly their particular play is going or they're frustrated at the quality of time they believe they're wasting playing with you. It's unlikely that you'll be capable of change these mysterious imagined patterns, certainly not in the midst of a match.

3. Suck up the criticism and carry with. When you are playing with this type of partner, you have to be pretty tough mentally. Because this partner's remarks will help you to play mind games with yourself as opposed to concentrating on the fit. Just look at Terri's condition. Once her partner shared with her that her serve wasn't any good, Terri began questioning the products her serve, her partner's feeling of her serve, and her partner's unwillingness to play in the net. All of most are unproductive thoughts that distracted Terri from ideas happening on the court. And when those type thoughts are filling bonce, it's difficult to think about tips to do to win the point. The best thing can be done for yourself is position this partner's remarks through the head, commit to playing your game and carry on with.

Well, Terri, I know these tips won't prevent you from the need to play with the "worst accomplice ever" again, but Lets hope it helps you cope with that situation a small better. Just know that it's something that happens to all doubles players on one occasion or another. And any partner which thinks that belittling your serve (or any other part of your game) is going to make you play better may be dealing with his own self-esteem issues.

Mind you, in the post, I HATE My Tennis Accomplice!, I have six advise for playing with a "mismatched" significant other, someone who doesn't play about the same level as you. And I think all those tips are helpful providing you're playing with someone with is not being an inconsiderate snazzy jerk.

Leave me a comment and let me know who's the worst partner you've ever messed around with and how you managed it (or how it blew up inside your face).

2012 NFL Draft Revisited: 5 Players on the Verge of Being Busts

The St. Louis Rams needed to add some offensive weapons around quarterback Sam Bradford this offseason. They lost running back Steven Jackson to the Atlanta Falcons via free agency, as well as wide receivers Danny Amendola to the New England Patriots and Brandon Gibson to the Miami Dolphins.

That means that former No. 33 overall pick, the first pick in the second round of the 2012 draft, wide receiver Brian Quick, must step up in 2013. Quick finished the 2012 season with just 156 yards receiving on 11 receptions but did add two touchdowns.

The Rams still have Chris Givens and Austin Pettis on the roster at wide receiver, who picked up 698 yards and 267 yards receiving last year, respectively. The Rams also added free agent tight end Jared Cook to bolster the passing game. Then they made the big move by bringing in the playmaking receiver out of West Virginia, Tavon Austin, with their first-round pick.

But they didn't stop there in adding at the wide receiver position, bringing in Austin's teammate at West Virginia, Stedman Bailey, with their third-round pick.

There's going to be an odd-man out in this equation, and there's a good chance that it's Quick. Austin, Pettis, Givens and Bailey could all push Quick down the depth chart. That wouldn't bode well for the former No. 33 pick and his ability to dodge the "bust" label.

Magpies are seen by west Brom 1-1 Newcastle: Jones leveller caught in relegation scrap - Goal.com America

Yet a West Brom roared its way back to the game by having an equaliser from Billy Jones right after the time mark that was enough to justify a point. Changes were made three by the Baggies from their defeat to Arsenal with Romelu Lukaku and Marc-Antoine Fortune leading the line although Steve Clarke also elected for a return to motion for Gordon Popov. Alan Pardew accepted straight back James Perch and Massaidio Haidara to first-team obligations with the latter making his entire Premier League introduction for the membership. The guests started out of the block and took the lead within the opening five minutes using their first test. A good passing move allowed Papiss Cisse the opportunity to go a combination in from the left-hand side a' his delivery cushioned to the web by Gouffran past a Ben Foster in target. Newcastle was in control and stacked on the force with two efforts in quick succession but the Baggies goalkeeper rejected a flick from Steven Taylor and a sharp volley from Yohan Cabaye from the subsequent corner. Foster then spared the blushes of Jonas Olsson when his under-hit back-pass fell to Cisse just for the striker to spurn the chance with an unsuccessful dinked effort. The first-half ended in controversy if the home area were refused a fee for a on Billy Jones. The referee and his assistant a' who was only ten yards away a' awarded a just outside the area for an leg from James Perch, yet replays proved the challenge was inside the box. West Brom a' which seemed useless in the first time a made a change through the introduction of Shane Long, who quickly picked the side up a gear. When he was denied a poacheras attempt after Rob Elliot fumbled a fizzing long-range drive from Fortune the striker nearly made a dramatic impact inside two minutes. But West Brom's second-half improvements were granted with a wonderful team target from Jones. The power and hold-up play from Lukuku in the place gave the defense a chance to stab the ball to the web to give his side a deserved equalizer. Newcastle eased its way back into the game towards the final five minutes to reduce the threat of the house side. With the clock ticking down, the two teams played out to a rating pull after an amusing game of two halves left Pardew's area embroiled further in the relegation fight.

Birmingham City consider Liverpool chef to displace Roberto Mancini - GiveMeFootball.com

Liverpool director Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a shock choice to restore Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium, must Manchester City choose to eliminate the Italian during the summer. In line with the People, Rodgers is in the body to become the next manager of Manchester City having originally been recognized as a possible future employer of the FA Cup finalists during his time at Swansea. Rodgers was discussed as successor to Mancini last season before Manchester City's spectacular late season transformation secured the Premier League title in the dying seconds of the final day of the plan. Birmingham City's title victory gained Mancini a fresh five-year agreement from the club's structure but, having failed in both the Premier League and Champions League this term, the 48-year-old might be trimmed in the summer - even if the Blues gain the FA Cup. Rodgers is reported to have been recognized as City's top target, despite the Northern Irishman being only one-year in to his agreement with Liverpool, and last year's winners could have no issue in spending a considerable payment payment to secure his signature. City, it is said, think Rodgers fulfils the conditions they're looking for in their next director, and have been satisfied with the 40-year-old's efforts to blood younger people, his negotiations with the media, and performances with Liverpool in Europe. The face area that Rodgers is proficient in both English and Spanish is also reported to become a substantial destination for Manchester City, though Liverpool are unlikely to take into account dropping a manager they rate very highly. Rodgers has won 23 of his 51 activities in control of Liverpool and, even though the Reds may only be sixth in the Premier League, are well-placed to build on the foundations laid during his maiden period at Anfield.

Kansas City Chiefs: Takeaways from May 21 OTAs.

Top of your head coach Andy Reid along with the Kansas City Chiefs returned on the practice field on Might 21, which marked the team's fourth day with organized team activities (OTAs).

Throughout the first wave of consultations (May 14–16), the defense consistently pestered its offensive peers—the tides have begun to show.

But that's not to mention that the defense was overshadowed; more like the total amount of power has teeter-tottered for a stalemate.

Andy Reid achieved KCI with packed hand bags, lofty ambitions and a highly touted West Coast felony. He soon grabbed headlines by building former Minnesota Vikings top of your head coach Brad Childress so that you can his staff—designating him being "spread game analyst. inches Recently, Reid enlisted this services of Chris Ault: your mastermind behind the pistol scheme.

This isn't a person's grandfather's offense (nor Brian Daboll's, for that matter). Several practices barely allow that players to scratch the outer.

But backup quarterback Chase Daniel affirmed that your inexperienced playmakers are rounding the training curve, claiming in a piece of writing in the Kansas Location Star, "There were no, 'What? ' calls inside huddle to us and also 'What does this really mean? ' You can reveal to our guys are grasping. "

According on the Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher, unpleasant tackle Donald Stephenson separate time at both guard positions.

The transition advertises two notions: Donald Stephenson has confirmed to be too valuable an asset to never utilize, and Jeff Allen offers ceased to effectively get his case.

The move sprouts a host of additional questions about Allen's development. Last season's second-round range was consistently bullied by way of bull-rushers in 2012.

The Chiefs forced a good measly total of 13 turnovers with 2012—tied for last inside NFL. That won't be the case under new sheltering coordinator Bob Sutton.

Pro Toilet bowl outside linebacker Justin Houston known the difference to KCChiefs. com's Reid Ferrin, declaring, "There are a couple changes. Some of your calls, and the way some of our big guys play in the beginning. They're attacking more, in lieu of reading. "

At the 2012 combine, Poe strutted from the field as a mobile or portable mountain. However, he presented adversity while reading along with reacting throughout his out of law school campaign.

Jackson recorded several sacks—more than he tallied in his previous three seasons—within a four-game stretch last year or so. And the aforementioned takedowns stemmed out of his deployment in subscription packages (i. e. pass-rushing scenarios).

Playmakers can't showcase their particular talents if they're not put allowed to do so—Bob Sutton seems to be agree.

5-Star Georgia Commit Sony Michel Says Football First, Rap Second

Michigan State recruit Jay Harris recently ate up the headlines when he announced that he will turn down a scholarship for the slim chance of becoming a successful rapper. Georgia commit Sony Michel may have similar goals, but those will follow after school and a chance to make something of himself on the football field.

The 5-star running back, who committed to the Bulldogs in April, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that football comes first and his music is second.

"Football is my first love, and then music is right after it," Michel told the AJC. "I will finish out football before I think about that (a music career)."

This seems like a wise decision considering Michel is an extremely talented football player and has a possible future at the next level. As for a rapper, well, there is one on every street corner and you can count on one hand how many actually make it. Get in line if you want a music career.

But this is still a serious hobby for Michel, who goes by the stage name "2Stackz," which ironically came from a goal he plans to accomplish with football.

Michel made people look silly on the football field, blowing past defenders with his speed and making guys miss in the open field.

While he has a bright future in the sport, he has also included 10 songs on his Youtube page. You can hear one of the songs below. Warning: lyrics are NSFW material.

According the report, Michel says that he writes the majority of his songs and has been working with a producer. He has also made appearances at a party and his high school, which has drawn positive feedback.

Actually, I have a good friend who is a producer, said Michel. (My friend) makes beats. I let him listen to my stuff. He makes beats for professional artists. He is actually trying to help me understand the business more before I jump into it. I'm just leaning right now before I get into it.

If Michel does everything right and fulfills exceptions on the gridiron, that music career could be on hold for quite some time.

Are generally World Cup Hopes with Tatters for Ronaldinho along with Kaka?

It was never very likely of which either Ronaldinho or Kaka is representing Brazil at so next month's Confederations Cup.

Although both had been the main squad Luiz Felipe Scolari given Korea and Japan around 2002, where they won the modern world Cup, neither had done sufficiently to impress the coming back again manager in his second stint responsible for the Selecao.

And which means that, when Scolari revealed his roster for any 2014 World Cup litigation run, Ronaldinho and Kaka have been unsurprisingly absent.

In their stead were the likes of Sao Paulo's Jadson along with Lazio's Hernanes. While Scolari admitted her side would miss the more often than 180 international appearances the pair might have offered, he insisted the country's youthful players would compensate for the issue of experience with "enthusiasm, " using the Guardian.

The 33-year-old had a good season for Atletico Mineiro within 2012 and earlier this particular month helped the Belo Horizonte side to the 6-2 aggregate win over Sao Paulo within the Copa Libertadores. Atletico will play Mexico's Tijuana in the next round and is now one of the favourites to win Southern America's Champions League corresponding.

But he simply still did not impress Scolari in modern matches against England, Bolivia in addition to Chile. With Brazil spoiled for choice at the heart of the park, yet only have been included as a luxury player anyway.

And as Scolari told the press on Tuesday, he simply didn't worry about the exterior pressure to name Ronaldinho to his team.

"If [the team] doesn't operate, I'll be prepared as it, " he said, as per Globo. "I called footballer A, B and C because I believed it's best for the B razil team. I believe even easily took [Ronaldinho] because of the newspapers or television I'd still be scrutinized. "

Included with regard to friendlies against Italy in addition to Russia in March, he played one more 28 minutes against the Azzurri and were only available in the Russia match but did practically nothing in either.

He looked completely a player who provides begun just 11 La Liga matches for Real Madrid this coming year. With both Oscar and Hernanes vying for the central playmaking spot and Lucas Moura and Hulk looking forward to minutes in a right-sided assaulting role, there was simply no requirement to involve Kaka in that Confederations Cup.

Both Ronaldinho together with Kaka, unfortunately, flamed out when they should have been enjoying their primes—one owing to lifestyle choices, the other because of an ill-advised change involving clubs.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil need been the crowning moments health of their careers, but at now, it's almost impossible to see either one of these being so much as considered for the place in Scolari's squad per annum from now.

Anchored Putting Officially Banned.

This USGA and R& A have officially restricted the controversial (but practically never new) practice of anchored putting. You can begin to see the official explanation on the putting ban here.

Since announcing your proposal, The R& a and the Usga have received comments and heard opinions in a variety of ways. approximately 450 persons from 17 countries (including a lot more than 100 persons living within the United states) used Your R& A's formal feedback mechanism, primarily by submitting comments through the R& a's website; a lot of these comments were from Uk and Ireland. approximately 2200 customers used the USGA's elegant feedback mechanism, primarily by submitting comments through the USGA's website. others given their thoughts through letters and emails to, or meetings and message or calls with, representatives of Your R& A and/or that USGA.

I find it hard to believe that only 450 worldwide and another 2, 200 the united states expressed their comments. But perhaps that's because countless were making comments on web 2 . 0, on blogs and around old school golf mass media. Those were evidently never considered.

One concern raised some comments opposing the suggested Rule was the lack of statistical evidence that anchored putting is mostly a superior method of stroke. Their premise was of which, without such"scientific evidence", the governing bodies cannot conclude that the technique of making your stroke may alter golf's essential challenge and allow an advantage to the gamer using it and therefore cannot hope to benefit the game through the elimination of the anchoring technique. Although we understand that people often look designed for statistical data when engaged inside of a factual and policy doubt, we believe that these assertions are misplaced in our context and reflect a misunderstanding for the rationale for the Rule as well as the principles on which the guidelines of golf are founded.

The USGA along with R& A do not think that banning the anchor putting will effect the 99. 9% exactly who play golf for weekend, rather than competitive objectives:

We do not share the view of the fact that health or growth of the game will be adversely subject to disallowing anchored golf strokes. our best judgment is that recent increases in us going for anchoring have occurred due to the fact some golfers of all ability levels believe it may help them to play better, not because frustration has caused it to be their only resort. We recognise that several golfers are expressing great concern over the necessity to make a transition for the reason that prefer anchored putting and fear that they may struggle to play additionally without it. but there is a difference between possibly not playing to boot and playing less or not at all; and there is a difference between expressions of probable future intent made well before the Rule's effective wedding date and actual behaviours that will only later occur as players conform to the Rule. We very much hope that nobody would play less as a result of prohibition on anchoring the club and we believe golfers' love of the game play will continue to bring these to the course. Taking this into consideration, we have no reason to believe that Rule would have any significant effects on participation levels.

We disagree together with the underlying premise that even more people would play golf anxieties equipment and playing Rules were relaxed allow golfers to hit for a longer period, straighter shots, to make more putts, and/or to post lower scores. The require for skill and the challenge in the game are what express golf; they are in truth what have caused more and more to love and play the gamefor the past 600 years. This enthusiastic embrace within the game as a stout test of skill in addition to challenge prevails as solidly today as ever: in a recent study in the, commissioned by the State Golf Foundation, passionate recreational golfers – which can be, the U. S. golfers who play most of the rounds and who spend almost all the money in golf – indicated that your challenge ofthe game are probably the top reasons, if not the most notable reason, why they can be so passionate about the game. In addition, research concerning non-golfers, as well as lapsed golfers, indicates that this top three reasons we in the U. ohydrates. do not take upward golf, or quit the game play, are reasons of tremendous cost, time, and the perception that golf is exclusionary together with unwelcoming – not the actual of playing the sport.

We also disagree with individuals who suggested that, while a unified range Rules is generally desired, there would be simply no harm in allowing bifurcation solely in the single issue of anchoring. Defining the parameters of ways to prepare for and produce a permissible stroke is for the core of the game and is reflected in many completely different Rules. To create a Tip that enabled one number of players (non-elite amateurs), maybe 30-40 times a circular, to make strokes in a fashion that is deemed to provide a potential advantage, while prohibiting another group of players (professionals/elite amateurs) from to do so, would be to start well down the road of creating two various games. This Rule is a central example of this impor tance of defining golf as a single game with a particular set of Rules.

I think this ignores the truth that bifurcation already exists. If golf's ruling powers were to arrive at regular public courses by using regular public players, we can see that quite undoubtedly. My playing partners quite often ask me what the rule is in a situation. Often, when I express it, the reaction is normally "that's dumb. " Read they go back to their "homerules" once I am straight from the picture.

The R& A and also the USGA have made your judgment that anchoring brings about an unacceptable risk of changing the nature and reducing the challenge of getting a golf stroke. The game will benefit over the future by revising the Rules of Golf to clarify the main nature of a allowable golf stroke and to assure all players are confronting the same basic challenge when they play this online game. Rule 14-1b also will prevent any additional development of possible new or improved options anchored stroke that deviate from the free swing, as well as steer clear of the further extension of anchoring into non-putting portions of the game, which has already been seen to occur along with chip shots from from the green.

Alabama Football: Cakewalk Schedule Makes Crimson Tide Favorite for BCS Title

After winning three BCS titles in the past four years, you wouldn't be crazy to think Alabama should have a tough schedule heading into the 2013 season. After all, it only makes sense to think that the top team in the nation should be tested by other top teams.

In fact, there are only two legitimate tests on the schedule for Alabama in 2013: the highly anticipated matchup against Texas A&M on September 14 and the team's annual matchup against LSU.

Even if Alabama were to lose one of those games, there's a strong likelihood this team will finish the season with a record of 12-1. This is a program that is loaded with the top players in the nation at every position, as illustrated by The SEC Logo recently:

Given the ungodly amount of talent Saban has amassed over the past handful of years, Alabama will be able to sleepwalk through most of its 2013 schedule.

How Alabama managed to secure a schedule that only includes four road games out of 12 is something that's hard to understand. Furthermore, only one of those games is against an opponent that will truly challenge this team.

It's hard to imagine the Crimson Tide losing more than one game. It's far more likely that 'Bama will go undefeated.

Looking at the schedules of schools like Georgia, South Carolina and other top SEC teams, it's clear that Alabama's getting off way too easy this season.

LSU—Alabama's top rival in the SEC West—has four contests against top teams. The Tigers will face Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Texas A&M.

Clearly, college football doesn't strive for parity like the NFL. When a team finishes in first place in the NFL, it faces a first-place caliber schedule the next year.

In Alabama's case, however, the reward for winning multiple championships seems to be a schedule that leads directly to another championship.

Rafael Nadal Beats Roger Federer to Acquire 2013 Rome Masters.

In the fact that was a completely dominating success for Rafael Nadal, the Spaniard further proved his claim as the "King of Clay Courts" which includes a 6-1, 6-3 victory finished Roger Federer to acquire the 2013 Rome Pga masters championship.

Bryan Armen Graham involving Sports Illustrated revealed that incredibly fast pace for the championship match on Twitter:

Now finished with a Italian championship, the two world-class tennis game stars will immediately start get yourself ready for the French Open, that is definitely set to begin these weekend, May 26.

Heading into this matchup, this seemed the tables tilted attractive heavily in Nadal's gain. That only proved to become true, as the Spaniard showed utter dominance with the opening game to the end point.

Federer showed enough resolve to fight back to deuce again and again, but Nadal would speedily rattle off two winners in that , span. His best strength Sunday was the cabability to shoot down the outside line and hit winning trades just inches from landing out of bounds.

Nadal surely looked quite as good as the No. 5 player on earth throughout the Rome Masters, as he proved in a position to regain the consistency he had lost throughout his 2012 campaign. In doing so, she has showed his critics that injuries are certainly not currently a problem.

The prevailing thing going for Nadal immediately is that he's headed for a clay-court major. Oh, and it doesn't hurt he has won it seven out from the last eight years.

The main obstacle in his way is inclined Federer, who won just one French Open not won by Nadal since 2004. That year was 2009, which amounts to just ages ago for the Swiss star, who provides only won three majors—Wimbledon instances, the Australian Open once—since that championship.

That's why the win is indeed crucial for Nadal. Regardless if he has to are up against the daunting Federer inside the French Open final just, he can look back in this performance as a indicator of how dominant one is over Federer on clay-based courts.

Toolbox, This Is How Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley Is Get yourself ready for Spurs On Sunday [PHOTOS].

With just days to get before a match upon Sunday, Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley went out on the town this week to damaging consequences — only days and nights before their final match within the season against Tottenham Hotspur where Arsenal is going to be hoping that Bardsley together with his colleagues will put up a good fight.

Bardsley was photographed using teammate Matt Kilgallon Wednesday night gambling in a local casino where he later seemed to pass out on to the floor as his friends layered £50 notes for the Sunderland defender.

Sunderland will already be lacking depth for Sunday's match, so it's critical of which Bardsley and his co-workers are match fit. Craig Gardner and Stephane Sessegnon are suspended as a consequence of red cards, while Danny Raised, Darren Fletcher, Lee Cattermole and Wes Brown are getting injured.

Callaway X Forged Irons Review.

With regard to you've been living according to a rock you've seen the fresh ads by now. Prefer me, you've probably noticed a difference in the attitude with Callaway Golf in a lot of these new ads. The New Callaway is normally what they're calling it and they are ready to take on the world. They're not making any bones to sort it out – they're aware they needed to step this up and they're here ready for ones fight of their lifetime. These new ads can be bold and they're extremely direct in what the brand new Callaway is going when. They want to come to be number 1 again and this option will not stop until they've been there.

The ads and also the new attitude are each of those great, but let's be honest here – in the event the gear isn't great, then there's going being a short end to this particular "5 year war" they're embarking on. THP has received a few the new 2013 X Forged irons to have an up close and personal examine just how big their guns are of this battle. Prior to this assessment I've enjoyed seeing the brand new attitude from Callaway. Deep down I'm hoping that your gear backs up the claims, because when I was growing up, Callaway was always the big dog on the market. Being an unbiased fan of golf equipment, I just want to check out a good fight. Let's take a closer look at the new X Forged irons.

The X Forged can be described as tour-inspired forged cavity spine iron crafted by design-chief Roger Cleveland by means of direct input from Callaway's Expedition players. We're not experiencing a muscleback, but the X Forged is surely a smaller and sleeker searching iron. The X Forged iron will tempt lower handicap players who are looking for feedback and workability also than distance and forgiveness.

The set I reviewed came being a 4-PW set with that stock Project X PXi the whole length in 6. 0 (stiff) fold. From the word go I'm happy. Call me old, but I like…no, I require a 4 iron! It looks like standard sets of 5-PW increasingly becoming too common for my own liking. So right straight from the shoot we're off to a good beginning. In fact, sets come in 3-PW configurations as properly. I've grown up actively playing forged players irons and I am a firm believer within playing an iron set you enjoy the looks involving. I don't care precisely how good I hit a irons – if they're disgusting or clunky I won't enjoy playing them just as much. So let me understand out there before I even go deeper. The X Forged golf irons are GORGEOUS! There, I actually said it.

The bright chrome finish for the X Forged immediately catches your eye. The smooth lines and simply stated graphic in the cavity in the iron combine for an overall great look that would stack up very well next to any iron available on the market in a beauty matchup. The shape and flow of the iron creates a very appealing examine address as well, which I personally put lots of stock in. Size-wise, the X Forged seem to fit perfectly between a muscleback together with a cavity back iron. At address you're browsing down at an iron that heel-to-toe gives the impression of having a little bit of meat behind the ball knowning that inspires a good higher level of confidence before even starting up the swing.

The Times Forged also feature / Grooves. According to Callaway, V Grooves are the most precise grooves ever add an iron of this kind. They're designed to give more control and shot-shaping with regard to pinpoint accuracy. Hitting balls while using X Forged, you immediately feel some great benefits of the V Grooves. It's almost like your story can feel the ball stick to the face for a moment longer. Speaking of truly feel, as expected the By Forged irons feel incredible when struck solidly. A smooth swing results in solid contact and precisely what usually came next was a gorgeous high and piercing softball flight. The Triple Net Forging process used on the X Forged irons is made for more aggressive grooves and extreme precision to add to the great forged feel and good performance.

The X Forged golf irons feature CG (Center associated with Gravity) Height Progression. Therefore the center of gravity is leaner in the long irons for any higher ball flight. It also places the CG higher within the short irons for a good flatter trajectory and simpler to manage ball flights with the scoring irons. This is actually opposite of Callaway's former forged cavity back iron, the RAZR X Solid, where the center involving gravity was actually very cheap in the short iron. It doesn't take long to see the use of CG Height Progression. There's nothing beats seeing a towering 5 in terms of iron that gets up inside the air and stays at this time there longer than what you're accustomed to. Definitely not something I immediately expected with this iron set.

I knew a few things going into this particular review. First, I knew that i loved the look, along with second, I knew which they'd feel great along with perform when struck well. What I didn't know and what would have to be answered was how they work as soon as shots aren't crisp in addition to everything's not hit eliminate. As a 7 handicap, I've got my days when I'm hardly clicking on my iron shots, and for me to own confidence to play a pair of irons, I need it to be there for me on at present. I'm not asking it to bail me out lake miss the sweet identify by 3 inches. I'm just looking for a little help when I miss a groove and also two high or low to the face.

In my testing I had a dash of both. I had days where I was hitting most shots flush and basically walked for the course looking like your love struck teenager. I also had several those rounds were I just wasn't quite there. I will say that in your testing, the best score I shot with the X Forged irons within the bag came on a day where I didn't understand it. I wasn't hitting almost everything pure, but the X Forged offered me just enough of an assist that i was still able to get around the course by having a respectable score. Every miss-hit is dissimilar, so I can't put an exact number on the showrooms lost, but I can say for you to don't have to bring a + handicap index for you to enjoy the game while using the X Forged in your bag.

The X Forged come equipped with the new Project Times PXi shaft. According to be able to Project X, "The PXi incorporates the hallmarks with the Project X brand (tour-caliber rewrite, control and tip stability) inside of a lighter weight shaft delivering greater distance and improved feel through an optimized butt to trick stiffness calibration. " I felt the shaft was a wonderful pairing in this golf iron set. Regardless of the kind of shot I played, I felt as though the shaft was a lot more than up to the job of delivering on good feel and excellent performance.

Another area that I was excited about was the distance I saw with such irons. I can't say that distance was one of several top 2 or 3 things I became expecting, but I was around happy with it. The lofts with the 2013 X Forged can be 1 degree stronger as compared to last year's Razr Back button Forged (6 iron is 30 degrees), so which will explain part of the idea, but I also think that the CG Height Progression lends a hand here too. The X Forged irons are a half club longer than any other forged cavity back golf iron I've played recently. This added punch will surprise a lot of people when they start testing them against other similar irons available.

A lot of early comments I heard out of THP Forum members discussed how nice looking those irons are, and there is absolutely no doubt about that. I also heard a few people mention how much these people like them, but how they didn't think one of several the game every single child play them. After playing for some weeks with them within the bag, I can say of the fact that X Forged irons aren't for each skill set, but I believe they can offer more playability than lots of people expect. If you're relying for the Super Game Improvement iron to acquire the ball in air I might suggest looking at a few X Hot or even X Hot Pro until you get a little much better. If you're a dependable ball striker, I would definitely suggest adding these for the demo list this yr.

The 2013 X Forged irons can be bought now for $875 (4-PW). The X Forged are one proceed the wide array associated with iron offerings from Callaway The game in 2013. I've personally demoed all of these books and highly recommend you do the same.

The New Callaway incorporates a plan and we are the ones that will benefit from this '5 Year War' more than anyone. Something about becoming a consumer in a market where all the biggest companies are exchanging blows with great new products gets me really excited. Now that I've started seeing what Callaway can be arming themselves with, I can't help but wonder what's going to come next. What are able to another company counter along with? Alex Ovechkin Reportedly Played Games 6 and 7 with Fractured Foot

Washington Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin takes on a huge brunt of the criticism for the team's playoff failures in recent years. The Caps were ousted in the first round again in the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, but reports have leaked that might let fans cut the 27-year-old Russian some slack.

According to team sources speaking to Katie Carrera of the Washington Post, Ovechkin fractured his left foot in the first period of Game 6 against the New York Rangers:

In the first period of Game 6, Ovechkin blocked two shots by Rangers' defenseman Ryan McDonagh. The first shot, at 14:29 of the first, struck his left foot. Replay of the game shows Ovechkin hesitant to get up after that block.

Skating could not make the injury worse, the source said, so Ovechkin played with it through the rest of Game 6 and Game 7 against the Rangers. The fracture will only require rest to heal, the source said.

After a goal and an assist in the first two games of the first-round series, Ovechkin would not register another point during the Caps' final five games. As mentioned by ESPN's Stats & Info, it's the longest drought of his NHL career:

Washington has been to the postseason six consecutive times, but has failed to get past the second round in any of those appearances. This year's first-round exit marks the third such end to the season during that span.

He spoke to reporters on Tuesday after the Caps had been sent home for good, and acknowledged that the lack of postseason success has been wearing on him in recent years. It's likely part of the reason he decided to avoid telling the press about the injury in the first place, or even contemplating missing the final two games.

Nobody remember losers, the Russian wing said Tuesday. Everybody remember only winners...In the playoffs, it doesn't matter if you score or not. You have to win. Team success is the most important thing out there...I didn't score and we lose. I score, we lose...Everybody have to make a difference.

Ovechkin was also critical of the officiating throughout the series, feeling that the NHL wanted to see the Rangers move on—at least, that's what it felt like to Ovechkin after being on the ice and watching some of the calls unfold. As Andrew Brandt put it on Twitter, the tone in his voice on Tuesday was one that takes a shot at the league over the officials:

As the Post report suggests, Ovechkin's foot will require rest—not surgery—before it is back to 100 percent. He was back on the ice on Thursday regardless, as he and his Russian teammates suffered an 8-3 loss to Team USA in the quarterfinals of the World Championships.

Completing another standout season, Ovechkin led the NHL in goals (32), goals created (24.3) and power play goals (16), doing so in all 48 games of the lockout-shortened season. He helped Washington earn the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, and was also third in total points among qualified NHL players.

Are Memphis Grizzlies Prepared for the Next Generation of San Antonio Spurs?

The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies clashed four times during the 2012-13 regular season and faced off in a memorable playoff series in 2011. But what's strange about the upcoming Western Conference Finals is that Marc Gasol and Co. still haven't had a chance to prepare for this version of the Spurs.

Memphis—along with every other team in the league—is perfectly acquainted with the Spurs' signature trio of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.

The Grizzlies have run up against them plenty of times, and even knocked them out of the postseason two years ago, but a quick look back at the recent matchups between these teams shows that the past won't be particularly helpful in predicting the future.

That 2011 series between the Spurs and Grizzlies happened at a time when Danny Green was practically the last guy off the bench and Kawhi Leonard hadn't yet entered the NBA at all. And on the other side, Memphis was giving heavy minutes to O.J. Mayo, Sam Young and Shane Battier.

Using more recent history as a guide doesn't help much, either. Three of the four meetings between the Spurs and Grizzlies this year took place before Memphis traded Rudy Gay. And in the lone meeting after that deal, the Spurs played without Leonard, who sat with a bum knee.

So, with the fact that these teams are oddly unfamiliar with one another, it's worth looking at the potential challenges the Grizzlies will face against the latest incarnation of the Spurs.

Here's the thing: You don't really game-plan to stop Green or Leonard. Both players do the vast majority of the offensive damage in transition, on spot-up opportunities or in scattered, offensive-rebound-type situations. Leonard, in particular, has made a habit of finding points with his athleticism and hustle alone.

This poses an interesting question for the Grizzlies, whose strengths include a pair of wing defenders in Tony Allen and Tayshaun Prince who excel at making life difficult for scoring swing men.

With Leonard and Green likely to serve as floor-spacers and little else, is it really worth using Allen or Prince's considerable defensive talents on a couple of players who really aren't ever going to attack in one-on-one situations?

In fact, it seems most likely that Allen will square off with Parker, largely in an effort to keep Mike Conley out of foul trouble. But the point is that what Green and Leonard do on offense effectively nullifies one of Memphis' greatest assets: its staunch one-on-one perimeter defense.

Green spent the bulk of San Antonio's semifinal series against the Golden State Warriors hounding Stephen Curry all over the floor. Fans everywhere took notice of how phenomenal Green was at defending the hottest shooter on the planet.

And recently, folks also seem to be coming around to Leonard's fantastic defensive versatility. As Sports Illustrated's Rob Mahoney noted, Leonard's ability to cover huge swaths of the court and defend anyone from point guards to power forwards has given the Spurs a frightening new small-ball option.

For evidence of that, we need only to look at the final minutes of San Antonio's series-clinching win against the Warriors, in which Gregg Popovich actually benched Duncan and slid Leonard to the 4.

Sorry, Memphis. This year's Spurs have a pair of defenders in Green and Leonard that are every bit as good as Allen and Prince. But San Antonio's duo also poses a much bigger threat on the offensive end. Remember, Green shot nearly 43 percent from long range in the regular season, while Leonard hit a solid 37 percent of his triples.

If any team is capable of making adjustments on the fly—especially on defense—it's the Grizzlies. They've still got the best defensive player in the league in Gasol and a regular-season resume that features the NBA's second-best defensive rating.

As we head into what's sure to be a very competitive series, it's critical to remember that these aren't the same old Spurs. Duncan, Parker and Ginobili are still the focal points of the team, but now there are a pair of dynamic young additions whom the Grizzlies can't afford to overlook.

Which happens to be Bigger Shock to Warriors' Postseason Financial success, Rookies or Veterans?

Several underlying themes have emerged with the Golden State Warriors' resurgence with the wake of the report of the fact that team's lone All-Star, Donald Lee, would be lost for any postseason with a divided right hip flexor.

With 25. 0 points per game (better than the two-point increase over this regular-season average of twenty two. 9), he's the suit highest scorer among many playoff participants. He boasts the fourth best three-point share (42. 9) of all shooters who definitely have attempted at least 26 long-range looks, a considerable accomplishment considering he's attempted better than 30 more threes (91) compared to second most active marksman (Kevin Durant, 59 attempts).

Add in the reality that he's averaged the second most assists inside playoffs (8. 3 per game) and he looks a lot more like a budding super star than an All-Star snub.

But the Warriors aren't playing in the conference semifinal for just the other time since 1991 on the strength of Curry's play alone.

Her supporting cast has appeared equally brilliant, with a bunch of players sharing the spotlight for the seemingly nightly basis.

And herein lies the shock value with the Warriors' second-round venture, nevertheless question becomes which category of Mark Jackson's unheralded stars may be the biggest surprise?

Although he's played in just three of Golden State last seven games for the total of 12 minutes, the mere presence of Lee generally seems to give the veteran Warriors a benefit in the awe element.

The initial prognosis to be able to his hip injury, suffered within the fourth quarter of Senior State's first playoff performance, left him looking at two months of rest before time for basketball activities.

Yet he made a 90-second cameo less than two weeks later within the Warriors' series-clinching win in Game 6 over the Denver Nuggets. Even much more shocking than his original return, though, is that he's since appeared within two more games, totaling five points and seven rebounds within a shade less than 11 moments.

Andrew Bogut, who missed nearly 32 games in the totally normal season while recovering because of ankle surgery, has been the within presence that the Warriors' front office had envisioned whenever they parlayed fan favorite Monta Ellis (along with Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown) on the Milwaukee Bucks at a 2012 trade deadline. Bogut's 11. 8 rebounds per game are the highest among all postseason players still for doing things, and his 1. 8 streets per game ranks suit among that group.

Carl Landry, who failed to receive the anticipated lump in playing time when Lee was lost, has provided an interior presence over the offensive end. He's averaging 11. 5 items on 51. 8 percent shooting within the field through 10 postseason tournaments.

Jarrett Jack, the team's highly scrutinized sixth man, has shot nearly 67 percent with the field this postseason with the clutch (last five minutes to a five-point game, via NBA. com). He scored eight within the team's final 13 points in regulation during Sunday's Performance 4 97-87 overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs.

But a team having a trio of rookies with its top nine-man rotation requires contributions from its younger stars additionally.

Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green and Festus Ezeli have provided that and then some during their first taste of playoff golf ball.

Barnes, the seventh overall selection within the 2012 NBA draft, topped the 20-point mark just triple during the regular season. But the North Carolina system has added three far more 20-plus-point performances to their resume (and two 19-point outings), none bigger than the game-high 26 tips he poured in at the time of Game 4.

Green and Ezeli have not been players defined with the box score, and this postseason run may be no different. The set have combined for 9. 0 tips, 6. 9 boards in addition to 1. 5 blocks with 10 playoff games, but they also, along with Bogut, have helped set the physical tone with which has defined these new-look Dubs.

Despite having Lee's surprise appearances, it's hard to imply that the veteran play is the more shocking resource fueling the Warriors' playoff propel.

Jack and Landry were introduced over the offseason to complete just what they're working at now: bring poise along with production to Mark Jackson's seat. Jack gets a small too ball dominant at times and Landry will struggle with bigger, disciplined defenders, but typically they're expected to add.

Barnes had the best pedigree of the Warriors' rookies, but even he entered the league together with his share of question dings. Scouts questioned his capability to create his own strike and wondered if he the selfishness to profit from his superstar potential.

Ezeli was a project pick in the truest sense of this phrase. The Nigerian-born bruiser saw significant minutes in just his final two seasons of college hoops, and had only several years of exposure for the sport before then.

Green was merely a baller, a nicer way of saying a prospect without a position. A season's worth involving NBA exposure still hasn't identified a longtime home relating to the hardwood.

Yet, as they've done all season, this Warriors' first year crop has played past its years. Barnes indicates an ability to take over games in spurts. Ezeli has established an intimidating presence within the basket when Bogut's specified a breather. Green has shined for a harassing defender and relentless hustler.

With so many surprise contributors emerging now of the season, maybe it's time to redefine expectations for Jackson's Players.

This team's playing with house money, but this doesn't mean their being thirsty for winnings has at this point been quenched.

OKC Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzlies: Performance 3 Score, Highlights together with Analysis.

Kevin Durant led all of scorers with 25 tips and added 11 rebounds and five assists, while Reggie Jackson posted a double-double using 16 points and 10 rebounds. Serge Ibaka tallied 13 items and 10 rebounds nonetheless did so while shooting 6-of-17 through the field.

On the antipode end, Marc Gasol led that Grizzlies with 20 points to go with nine rebounds, some assists and two streets. Tony Allen scored 14 points, while Mike Conley persisted his rise to stardom along with 14 points, seven rebounds along with six assists.

In the conclusion, Durant's missed free throws and Memphis' surprisingly easy fourth-quarter offense decided the defensive slugfest.

The action started early, as Memphis' high-low strike created a 22-18 lead afterwards of the first one fourth. All five starters got on the board, with Gasol along with Zach Randolph leading that charge inside. As Allen poured using some surprising offense and Ibaka ongoing to struggle offensively, Memphis was at control.

Jerryd Bayless scored half a dozen consecutive points to tell you lot more the second quarter, however , Durant responded in your partner's usual fashion. He scored eight points over the second and led the Thunder for a furious rally, assisting players which include Kevin Martin and Jackson as they definitely closed the gap.

Memphis appeared to understand Durant during the other quarter, smothering him defensively and additionally forcing the ball out of his hands. This forced OKC to go scoreless for 3: 37 and enabled the Grizzlies to make a 7-0 run.

Even after scoring, the Thunder journeyed scoreless for another 2: 48 as Memphis pieced alongside one another a 6-0 run. By the time we entered this fourth quarter, it is 66-60 Grizzlies, and Gasol what food was in full control offensively.

Martin, Derek Fisher and Ibaka pieced together offense for the Thunder, but the Grizzlies responded which has a three at every switch. Quincy Pondexter and Bayless weathered a storm early, while Z-Bo in addition to Gasol pounded it down low.

As time leaped out, Mike Conley's free-throw shooting decided all this, as he knocked lower four free throws in the last minute.

There seemed to be more to this game compared to referees, but the lengthy replay review has turned into a topic of conversation with Twitter. In fact, the Twittersphere unanimously crowned the referees as the momentum-killing forces of a postseason.

Beyond the referees is a question that many have wondered shock as to, as Kevin Durant's mean streak may be costly. After receiving 12 specialised fouls in his former five seasons, Durant was handed 12 through the 2012-13 regular season by themselves.

More often than not necessarily, the Grizzlies dominate defensively and take points as they simply come. Against OKC with Game 3, however, they were aggressive and caused it to be their high-low attack lifetime perfection.

The Thunder might have the league's elite scorer, but that didn't change anything regarding this one. The Grizzlies clamped down defensively and closed off virtually all the floor.

There was clearly more creative tweets, but none summed up the competitive nature of this particular series better. Not only would it address the final scores, but it presents us together with the proverbial "on to another location one" mentality.

Wigan Relegated out of English Premier League by using 4-1 Loss vs. Arsenal.

Going into the Emirates Stadium and beating an Arsenal team playing for its Champions League life was always going as being a tall task for Wigan. It developed into too tall, as Toolbox defeated Wigan, relegating that Latics to Championship footballing next season.

This gives Wigan the distinction of being the first team so that you can win the FA Cup and grow relegated in the similar season, per ESPN's Paul Carr:

The crushing strike was dealt by Theo Walcott, who broke a 1-1 deadlock early inside second half after a sexy cross from Santi Cazorla. The Gunners went on to tally two a lot more goals from Lukas Podolski along with Aaron Ramsey.

Wigan came into Tuesday knowing it probably needed two wins to be able to in the Premier Little league, trailing 17th-place Sunderland by four points with a game in hand. Though a draw against Arsenal may have technically kept Wigan surviving, Sunderland would have held a plus-11 goal differential, which happens to be the tiebreaker when two teams finish while using same amount of tips.

Wigan, which has played in the Premier League for 8-10 straight seasons, always seemed to locate a way to stave off relegation in the waning moments of the summer season.

In 2007, a conquer Sheffield United on the past day of the months kept the Latics inside the Premier League. In 2011, a make an impression on Stoke City on one more day saved Wigan, which went in the day in 19th spot. Last year, the team went with 19th place with half a dozen games remaining to 15th up for grabs after winning five of people games.

This year, nevertheless, the magic ran dry. Now, Wigan will must stave off other clubs from poaching its forex broker and top players.

Forex broker Roberto Martinez, often a good hot name in managerial search terms, could finally switch factors. Quality players like James McCarthy, Fred McArthur, Callum McManaman and Shaun Maloney could be snatched up by top-flight clubs. Wigan could quickly find itself in a very full rebuilding mode.

All nutrients must come to a finish, and Wigan was having fun with fire each year, saving its best football for late inside season. In 2013, that bad habit finally swept up with the club.
