NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers faculty, alumni and students want to know why it took months to oust the men's basketball coach caught on film shoving players and berating them with a gay slur.
Mike Rice was fired Wednesday after the public saw a video made by a former employee that showed how he behaved at practices between 2010 and last year.
One group of faculty members says that punishment was too light and university President Robert Barchi should step down over it.
Alumna Debbie Hadley says she believes the coach would not have been fired if the video had remained out of the public eye.
