Liverpool and Everton Share Top League Year Ruins, but Referees Rob Both

Liverpool and Everton shared the items in the 220th Merseyside derby in a 0-0 draw at Anfield. The result leaves the Blues five points free from their city rivals in the race for a European place and maintains David Moyes and his team on course for an additional following category end above the Reds. Steven Gerrard demonstrated even though potent threat formerly provided by Luis Suarez was significantly absent, he is still an important influence for Liverpool through the entire goalless pull. Everton's main defensive partnership of Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin easily managed Liverpool's attacking threat, but Moyes and his staff were also lacking a threat in advance at Anfield. The factors may have been distributed in the two derby matches in 2013, but refereeing choices evened up after the activities at Anfield on Sunday. Everton defender Distin seemed to have damaged the deadlock early in the second half at Anfield, but match official Michael Oliver adjudged Blues striker Victor Anichebe to have obstructed Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina when Leighton Baines' corner found its way to the location. Moments prior to the banned goal, Anichebe had been talked to by Oliver for tussling inside the region, however the forward was not at fault at Baines' set piece, and Reina seemed to have lost his footing. There is a vintage clichA in basketball that refereeing decisions even themselves up over a period, though. And Liverpool fans can be forgiven for featuring still another refereeing choice that denied them victory in the initial Merseyside derby of the summer season at Goodison Park. Everton had delivered themselves straight back from two goals down to 2-2 and were defending a corner which Suarez made home. Liverpool chief Gerrard was so sure that the target was genuine that he proceeded an 80-yard party slide to finish in front of the supporters at Goodison. But referee Andre Marriner adjudged the Uruguay global was offside when he scored, and the late "winner" wasn't granted.
