John Carver's verdict on United's German Legion - ChronicleLive

Newcastle United new children Massadio Haidara, Yoan Gouffran and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa JOHN CARVER thinks Newcastle Unitedas French Legion have quickly proved they could slice the mustard on Tyneside. Many soccer observers suggested there may be an unbalanced dressing room, when United bolstered their French-born contingent to 10 in January. But just like the French aces have been embraced by the fans, Toon players have easily adapted to the new arrivals. And Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran, Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Massadio Haidara have all contributed to the plan. Carver told the Chronicle: aSome people were worried about the total amount of French players we'd here. aBut what they've is just a winning mentality. aThey have a hard-working attitude and that's half the battle. aI was speaking to Hatem Ben Arfa last week and I was told by him he is really stoked up about the chance of playing with these lads that are so gifted once heas entirely fit.a United can welcome Ben Arfa right back this week-end at Swansea. And Carver said he's getting excited about seeing the playmaker link up together with his fellow French stars. aThey arenat just skilled, they work hard and have an excellent group ethic,a he said. aThat can have a great effect on everyone a' specially Hatem. aI think the fans have taken to it very well.a In years gone by it's been hit and miss when it found Frenchmen. Brian Ginola and Laurent Robert were excellent, but Alain Goma and Lionel Perez barely pulled up any trees. Carver feels that such a large influx at the same time is helping not just the new lads but also some of mainstays of the group. He said: aThere are quite several French lads in the building. aThereas 10 French lads and a few more French speakers. aThe loves of Papiss and Cheick talking French helps as well. It generates them decide faster. Before weave had the odd one or two and thatas more challenging. aBut they have found their feet quickly.a Newcastle also have easily entered any communication difficulties with a team translator who joins the team house and away for team talks and conferences. Carver said: aWe do have a French interpreter and heas great. aWhenever the director or I talk, he repeats it and comes to the team meetings. aWe had him set for the Swansea conference and he means what we are getting across. aHe moves around so thereas no communication problem. In fairness, other lads are picking things up. aIt has served Papiss as well since heas talking more English than he used to.a It absolutely was in your home game with Southampton that fans in the East Stand held up cards to create a Tricolour hole. The day turned out to be an excellent success for United, and Carver actually joked he'd the French national anthem stuck in his head afterwards. He quipped: shock had the French morning and everybody shared it, that has been great. aThat was a bit of fun. It certainly gave the French lads a boost. aBut it is hard coming into a different country. aI was astonished to know the French national anthem, but and so I think everybody gets to the nature of it it's a catchy melody. aIt has undoubtedly been a large boost for people having them here.a
